Let’s Get This Straight, a new book for young people with LGBT parents by Tina Fakhrid-Deen with COLAGE, provides the tools for them to combat anti-LGBT bias, take pride in their families, and speak out against injustice. The book profiles forty-five diverse youth and young adults who have LGBT parents. Let’s Get This Straight also includes probing questions, fun activities, engaging quizzes, and reflective journal sections for youth to share their feelings and experiences about their families.
The HRC Family Project is continuing its work with child welfare agencies across the country through All Children – All Families, our initiative aimed at increasing cultural competence among child welfare professionals and educating the LGBT community on opportunities to foster and adopt children. This month the number agencies participating in All Children – All Families hit the 50 mark with the addition of Casey Family Programs, one of the country’s leading and most respected child welfare organizations, based in Seattle, Wash.

August has brought several developments concerning the future of Proposition 8, a state constitutional amendment adopted by California voters in November 2008, stripping same-sex couples of the right to marry. Here’s a timeline of the events:
- August 4th – Judge Vaughn Walker of the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California, a federal trial court, issued his decision in Perry v. Schwarzenegger concluding that Proposition 8 violates the protections of the U.S. Constitution.
- August 12th – Walker lifted a temporary stay on his ruling and clarified that it would not go into effect until Wednesday, August 18th
- August 16th – the 9th Circuit U.S. Court of Appeals put Walker’s decision overturning Prop 8 on hold. Marriage equality remains unavailable for same-sex couples in CA.
For more information on what the 9th Circuit’s decision means see ourProp 8 FAQ.
Over 100,000 of you signed our open letter calling on Target to make it right after they donated $150,000 to support a Minnesota candidate with ties to a group that condoned the execution of gays.
If that initial donation was a slap in the face, Target has now delivered a punch in the gut.
With your signatures in hand, HRC has been talking directly with Target for two weeks. In a shocking development, Target just told us that they won’t be taking ANY corrective action to repair the harm they’ve caused.
The stakes are too high in Minnesota to just sit back. The next governor will likely have the opportunity to either sign or veto marriage equality legislation – so HRC will devote $150,000 of our own resources to elect a pro-equality governor and lawmakers in this critical state.
All eyes are now on Best Buy – another Minnesota-based company that also made a political contribution to support the same extremist candidate. Best Buy has yet to respond.
We expected more from these companies. Target and Best Buy have – and no doubt will continue to have – model employment policies for LGBT people, and we will continue to support those efforts.
But our sights are now set on the election.
With full marriage equality hanging in the balance in Minnesota, it’s important that we send a strong message: we will work tirelessly to elect pro-equality candidates.
Competing against unlimited amounts of corporate cash, we’ll advance marriage equality legislation and boost its supporters – and we’ll keep you informed of ways you can help.
One more thing: our 500,000 Facebook and Twitter followers were the first to know about this update. We’ll always keep you up to date no matter how you stay in contact, but our Facebook and Twitter pages are a great way to stay on top of breaking news and show your friends you care about equality. Got an account? Follow us today:
You’ll not only get news as soon as we do – you’ll join the conversation of a growing community of HRC supporters.
We all feel the sting of disappointment deeply, but our passion for change and equality runs even deeper. Help us fight back harder in the months to come.
Hello all and welcome to the blog. If you are a past user of freegayecards.net you may have noticed that the site and this blog has been absent for quite a while. This was due to me procrastinating about whether to carry on with the site. I decided, wrongly it turns out, to move the ecard site to a different domain to support another of my sites but something in the back of my head kept telling me I’d done the wrong thing, so back it came! Trouble is I’ve probably lost all the goodwill of my link buddies and visitors in the meantime so that will take some work but I hope the new, improved site will help soothe anyone who got in a huff.
In the near future the site will undergo an upgrade so that visitors can send their cards via their Facebook and Twitter accounts plus lots of other upgrades and bug fixes I hope will make your stay more pleasant and fun.
I am adding back hot pictures kindly donated by other gay websites slowly but surely so keep a look out for new stuff. The first batch is from Drake Rock. Just go to the main site at freegayecards.net and click on the Drake Rock button in the left hand navigation to see the selection. If you want to know more about the Drake Rock website either click on the ad banners on the site or go to www.freegayecards.net/drakerock.
Thanks for coming back to freegayecards.net and tell your friends that we are open!
Best wishes from Simon
